The Emasculation of Truth

Truth

Like most of you, our news feed has been inundated with the news of the Jenner photo on the cover of Vanity Fair. We have come across lots of articles and opinions, some which are celebrations and others direct threats to an opinion that varies from their own.   The wonderful blessing of this nation is that our founding fathers created a country in which we have the freedoms of speech and religion. We have a nation like none other in the world, where people can agree to disagree on anything and  peacefully live in a nation, showing love and respect to others, while having their own freedoms protected.  It is because of this freedom, that we feel moved to share our viewpoint from the Christian worldview.

You may already have assumptions what the “Christian” response to Bruce Jenner is. The Christian caricatures of our time are either an ill-informed bigot who hates the LGBT community or the direct opposite, a quieted uncomfortable fool with little credibility who dare not speak their close-minded belief.  Our hearts pain, that perhaps you have never met a believer or you have met someone who professed to know Christ and exhibited either behavior above.

If this has been your experience, we encourage you to read the Bible (or go to biblegateway.com), find a community of Christians (your local church) and truly learn about who our Christ is, what he has done, and our response to His amazing love and grace. As Christians, let us share what Christians believe:

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered, was crucified, dead and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the quick and the dead. Christ died out of love for us, so that we may experience grace.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. We believe the Old and New Testaments to be the infallible Word of God; inerrant as originally given, verbally inspired by God, the complete and sufficient revelation of His will for salvation and conduct. We believe in the Great Commission; to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the uttermost parts of the earth.

Christians are not born Christians. We believe all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). There was a time when we did not know Christ and lived a life without Him. We love Jenner, we have compassion for his hurts and we long for him to find true peace and joy. Out of love, we want people to come and know the abundance of lasting joy that comes from knowing Christ and responding to that love with obedience.

What is the Christian response to this News?

God Loves Bruce Jenner. He loves his heart, his passion, his mind, his soul. Bruce Jenner was beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14). Christ looks at Jenner with love. He hurts for him, not as a transgender, but because he knows that Jenner will not find true peace in anything outside of Christ.(Isaiah 5:20) Christ knows that Bruce Jenner longs to be validated. Jenner went from struggling with male identity issues (athletic achievement, sexual prowess, financial success) to female identity issues (ideal beauty, female sexuality, fame).

Our hearts break in knowing Jenner has a community of love ones who believe in a culture of self-adulation. An environment where each fights for a moment of validation in the spotlight. The belief beauty, fame and money bring true happiness. His family represents our culture where there is a constant drive for ultimate pleasure and power. It is wrong to villianize Jenner, as we all struggle with the lie that anything other than Christ will bring us ultimate fulfillment.

We believe the lie true happiness occurs when we find "the one", we believe the lie divorcing one family and creating another will bring no repercussions, we believe the lie an ivy league school and a great career is true success, and  we believe the lie changing our gender will have no effect on ourselves or those around us.

We have fed an entire generation with lies and they have bought into it. [1]

The world devoid of Christ is a world of paradox whose morality is based on the cries of the masses. Our world sees gaining power by defining humanism on our own terms as the relative truth. There is no sacred and there is no morality, our culture acts on feeling only. Our culture believes in no absolute truth, in that,  no one should judge anything anyone feels. We live in a culture of feeling.

We are told today that Bruce Jenner feels he is a woman but we have been told the opposite by feminism. Secular feminism is in direct contrast to the transgender, who have taught us that the brain and soul have no gender, and now we are told the contrary. Our culture will continue to tear down truth and morality as it finds that relativism has no foundation.

Bruce Jenner is not the enemy. A culture without absolute truth is much more dangerous. We are headed to a quicksand of reason that has no moral resolute. The world is searching for purpose and meaning and grasps for a temporary satisfaction to appease the despair in our hearts. Take heart, absolute truth does exist.  God's Word tell us that we have been created by Him, and that we all were created with purpose (Jeremiah 29:11). Everything about us (including gender) are determined at conception. (Gen 1: 26) His Word and Love for us never changes. The truth of God's Word will continue to "outlive its pallbearers"[2]

The world around us is searching for love and as Christians we must embrace these brothers and sisters with open arms and encourage them with the truth of God's Word.
